The Telescope Dome, Tuesday Evening

Jeremy wasn't a guy who went back on his word or did date-type things in a half-assed manner. He'd dressed well, and had a table for two set out within the little observatory on the dorm roof. What was being served was covered with some of those shiny dome things for now, but it was going to be good. Of course it was, he'd ~~handwavily~~ gotten it from one of the dining establishments on the island on special order.

He also had something else, a little surprise hidden away, but that was for later. Now all he needed was Caroline, and he'd be set.

While he waited, he made sure everything was perfect.

Jeremy laughed. "Of course not," he said, teasing or not. Please, he barely knew what a wifebeater was. It wasn't a part of the Darling world. Even his dad had an affinity for crisp pink shirts with red suspenders, for crying out loud. "I promise, I'll always be presentable. It's a Darling thing."

"That's a pleasant family thing," Caroline replied thoughtfully. "Now I'm imagining pinstripe pajamas and cute fuzzy slippers."

"My pajamas are actually planet-print," Jeremy said, as if that was a huge secret, though he was smirking. "But I make them... nighttime presentable?"

How presentable could you be in pajamas, anyway?

"So you take your interest in the planets to bed with you, interesting." Planet pajamas were not exactly Caroline's thing, but she did have some cow slippers that no one needed to know about.

"Well, that depends on what else I'm taking into bed with me," Jeremy smirked. "the planets aren't my priority, but they can come if there's nothing else."

"Aww, they're like desperation planets." And potentially spoke of his experience level.

Jeremy's level of experience was pretty good for a guy his age. His maturity level in choice of comfortable sleepwear, not so much.

"Nah, they're just regular planets," he decided, then gestured first at the telescope, then at the table. "So, would you like to stargaze or have non-breakfast foods first?"

"I so vote for the crazy combo," Caroline said, making her way to the table to see if she couldn't peek at what was under the silver domes. "Unless stargazing wasn't meant to be messy with syrup."

"Oh, I'm sure we can make stargazing be whatever you want it to be," Jeremy replied with a smile as he moved to uncover the things set out on the table. There was a big stack of fresh, pretty damn delicious looking waffles on a plate, a container of syrup (of course), a small bowl of whipped cream, and even another small bowl with strawberries. He'd made an effort.

"Does this look to be to your liking?"

"Oh wow, it's completely the ideal breakfast...for dinner," she grinned, sticking a fingertip in the whipped cream and having a taste. "Mmm, okay, so am I going to offend you by actually eating? Because I really do love food." Helped with avoiding craving ripping open the gorgeous vein of his neck and having a feast thing.

And that would be a mood killer, if anything. Better to stick with the breakfast dinner.

"Of course not, I got it here to be eaten," he grinned back at her, even going so far as picking up a plate and offering it to her. "I think i'd rather be offended if you didn't wanna eat it."

Well, probably not.

She accepted the plate and made herself a totally silverware-free plate where she could dip pieces of waffle into pools of topping. "So Jeremy, what sort of stars are you showing me tonight?"

"Well, will you object to planets?" Jeremy wondered as he was moving over to the telescope. "'Cause Jupiter's supposed to be pretty bright right now."

"Not at all!" she answered, following him with her plate. Okay and if she ate while he talked no one could really fault her. It wasn't like she couldn't pay attention while chewing (unlike some people). "Jupiter...now I don't actually know much about this stuff. Astronomy wasn't a big thing at my school. Is that the big one or the one with rings?"

"It's the big one," he replied, leaning over the telescope to start looking through it and adjust it until he found what he was looking for. Or something else he found pretty. "The one with the rings is Saturn. Astronomy wasn't really a school thing for me, either. I've just... kinda always liked looking up at the stars."

"Isn't there a saying about people who are always looking up? Not like, about them tripping and falling, but about how they're eternal optimists or something?" Caroline asked, watching him with interest.

"I've heard something like that, though I have a brother who would say it's more likely we trip all over our own feet," Jeremy replied, looking up briefly to flash her a quick smile. "Weird because he's a priest, so he deals a lot with stuff from above."

"A priest?" There was some serious shock on her face. "Does that make your family like, super religious and stuff?" Caroline was still a little freaked out by religion what with her new status and a lot of those people being the ones trying to murder her.

Jeremy managed to mostly miss that shock, eye on the sky. "No," he replied easily. "I think Brian maybe got into the whole priest thing to annoy Dad, really."

Because obviously he'd been expected to go into business, but apparently he didn't want to worship at the altar of money. Go figure.

"Awesome," she said, relieved by that response. "I mean, good for him, finding his calling and...stuff." Yes, Caroline was horrified by the sound of her response and decided to move on as quickly as possible, even if it meant moving closer to try and distract with her feminine ways. "So, did you find something to show me?"

And it really wasn't hard to distract Jeremy anyway. "Ah hah! I did." And he sounded pretty triumphant about it as he straightened up, gesturing at the telescope. "Not Jupiter, but Sirius. Brightest star in the sky."

Sirius was way better than Jupiter, anyway, all twinkly and seeming to change color, even if really it was something of a blueish white.

He grinned at her. "Not as pretty as you, but still way nice to look at."

It didn't take much to win Caroline over and compliments were a fast method. She set her plate down and leaned over to have a look in the telescope. Amazed by the clarity and seeing a star so brightly compared to just looking up with her naked eye (sharp as her vampiric vision may be), Caroline smiled and made a little excited sound. "Oooh, is it supposed to be so blue?"

"I think that has something to do with the atmosphere of the Earth, 'cause the light has to come a long way to get to us so the color gets brighter." And this was about the only subject she was ever going to hear him sounding so smart about. "Pretty amazing, right?"

"Seriously amazing," she agreed, turning a smile on both Jeremy and his knowledge. "You seem like a smart guy. Maybe too smart."

"I sound smart?" Oh, way to sound surprised, Jeremy. He shook his head with a little smile and a shrug. "I'm not smart, you can ask anyone. I'm just interested in this astronomy thing, that's all. Definitely not too smart."

And it didn't bother him one bit. Maybe in a couple of years.
